About The University

Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia(USIM)

Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) is an emerging Islamic university which is fully owned and funded by the Malaysian Government. Being the 12th public institution of higher learning, it aims to spearhead knowledge and be the global reference centre for Islamic Science.

The university adopts a balanced approach between the physical and spiritual aspects, not only in the academic programmes offered, but in its administration and management levels. Against this backdrop, USIM embraces a holistic approach that unites revelational sciences (Naqli knowledge) and rational sciences (Aqli knowledge).

The education paradigm at USIM is based on the basic principle that integrating religious sciences with social and physical sciences will not only provide a more comprehensive understanding of current global challenges, but also offer a fresh alternative in approaching and solving them.

This is driven by the universal nature of Islamic values. History has proven that these values can be shared by all humankind; living together harmoniously with mutual respect and tolerance. It is also an effort towards reviving the scientific and technological feats of Muslim scholars in the past and moving it forward.

USIM graduates are moulded within this ethos, so that they are not only able to function as professionals in their respective disciplines effectively, but at the same time are ready to contribute and make a difference to the society by upholding Islamic values.

As such, USIM’s unique model for Islamic higher education sets it apart from other Islamic universities worldwide. The university also pushes for outstanding progress in three tracks, which are:
• Islamic Studies, Quran and Sunnah
• Islamic Science, Technology and Engineering
• Islamic Arts, Social Science and Humanities

These tracks are supported by three centres of excellence, namely the World Fatwa Management and Research institute, the Islamic Science Institute and the Institute of Halal Research and Management. Our academics are leading lights in their fields, and are experts on subjects as diverse in range from Quran and Sunnah to Science and Technology.

USIM is committed to embrace global perspectives in its teaching, learning, research and administration. This commitment is embedded within the community of USIM and, together with a unique integration of Naqli and Aqli knowledge, has become the foundation for the university’s affairs.
